Christmas Yard Decorations

You know how there are certain things in life, situations, dates and events that rekindle old memories. Well that's what Christmas does to me. For some reason the memory of my father erecting all of the Christmas yard decorations. I remember how my mother used to complain about all the mess he made and how the decorations would take up so much room when they where packed away for the year. One thing that has stuck in my mind was my father, climbing a ladder to get onto the roof to secure the Christmas lights. The Christmas lights. In my eyes they where the main item in the Christmas yard decorations. I reckon it was the lights that made the display. Anyway back to my father on the roof putting up the lights. He always reminded me of a rock climber. Scaling the roof, string of lights in one hand, staple gun in the other. Straddling the ridge capping of the roof as fix the colored lights to it, and several times loosing his footing and nearly falling off the roof. Sometimes it was quite comical to watch. But the one thing I felt sorry for dad about was when he hit the switch and nothing happened. He would then have to climb back on the roof and check every bulb, find the one or several that where blown, climb back down, hit the switch and hope that no other bulb would blow. I would think that this could be me one day.

Times have changed. With the use of LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights, if one is blown, the rest still illuminate. You still have to replace the blown one, but you don't have to check hundreds of bulbs to find the dud. All you have to do is find the one that is not lit. And using Christmas yard decorations that are illuminated with LED's, they are no where near as hungry on the power supply as are the old incandescent bulb, so they make it alot easier on the hip pocket.

Remember earlier in this article when I was tell you how my mother would complain about all the room that the outdoor Christmas decorations would take up when they where packed away. Well a good way of stopping the complaining from the other half is to use inflatable Christmas decorations. They not only pack away to next to nothing, but they look fantastic when inflated and look even better at night with most of them coming with there own built in illumination. They are as easy as blowing them up with an electric pump, securing them to the ground, and connecting the power. Nothing could be easier!

Although I miss spending time with my dad and helping him with the outdoor Christmas decor, I'm glad that I don't have to go to as much trouble with the decoration as my he did, as it leaves me more time to enjoy Christmas season.
